Graphic Artist | Instant Signs

June, 2000 – Present

Laying many different styles of signs, from small stickers and decals to vehicle graphics, to giant banners. Designing logos and vectorizing customer's artwork for use on signs. Loading and operating large-format vinyl-cutting plotter. Weeding, taping, and laying vinyl graphics onto many types of substrates. Color-matching and printing onto various adhesive and banner media with a wide-format printer.

Computer Service Technician | Advanced Computers and Communications

September 1998 – May 2000

Many service functions including repairs, diastostics, and upgrades. Also built many computer systems for the company to sell. Set up networking for the business as well as for clients. Developed better methods for tracking inventory, printing invoices and receipts, purchase orders, etc. Offered many suggestions for improving the company as well as recording radio advertisements. Worked creatively on the business' World-Wide Web site and made many new improvements on company practices.

Diagnosing and repairing a vast array of problems with IBM PC-compatible machines, printers, and related devices. Also going to many service calls to fix systems on-site. Essentially the same area of work as Computer Trader. Using various software diagnostic tools such as The Troubleshooter, RamExam, etc.

Renting out and selling videocassettes, recommending titles, repairing the computer system, recommending computers to buy, upgrading them and setting the system up for business use. Calling the late list, handling and counting money, as well as taking inventory.

Basic sales duties, as well as handling returns, complaints, pre-purchases, and call-in list. Recommending titles to customers, offering add-ons for them, and answering any questions they may have.

Computer Service Technician | Computer Trader

March 1997 – October 1997

Troubleshooting various problems on customers’ IBM PC-compatible machines as well as some Apple Macintosh machines. Working on systems from 8088s up to Pentium and Pentium-compatibles and fixing many problems associated with Cyrix and AMD processors. Used several operating systems, such as MS-DOS, PC-DOS, MS-Windows 3.x, MS-Windows 95, MS-Windows 95 OSR2, and Mac-OS. Building entire computer systems from scratch and preparing them for sale as well as cleaning up computers taken in on trade and preparing them for sale (including low-level formatting, etc.). Working with diagnositic programs such as Micro 2000's MicroScope v5.0-v6.16 and American Megatrend, Inc.’s AMIDiag v4.0-v5.0. Also did some other odd jobs for the business.

March 1997 – October 1997

Troubleshooting various problems associated with clients’ DOS-based systems as well as small- to medium-sized networks. Fixed difficulties with pharmaceutical systems, upgrading many different computers, and building new systems from the ground-up. Worked on DOS/Windows systems mostly as well as QuickScript and other concurrent DOS platforms.

May 1996 – August 1996

Testing Japanese printer drivers for assorted inkjet and laser printers. Also maintaining the TCP/IP network connections and troubleshooting various computers with differing configurations. Worked with both repairing and upgrading systems as well as keeping track of inventory. Systems used were similar to those in Perrin McGee Agency, Inc., with the addition of SUN workstations, Macintoshes and OS/2-equipped PCs. Used mostly English & Japanese Windows 3.1 and Windows 95, but also used some Korean, Chinese, and Hebrew. Other software used were the native Japanese programs, Microsoft Test v4.0, and many different printing programs like CorelDRAW! v6 And Adobe PhotoShop v3.0.

Maintaining network operations and troubleshooting problems. Also entering data and transactions on the side. Installing software and teaching users how to operate the software such as Microsoft DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Applied Systems’ The Agency Manager, Novell NetWare v3.12, etc. Systems worked on were IBM Compatible MS-DOS machines; 486DX2-66Mhz and Pentium-75Mhz being the most often used.
